In recent years, the England football team has not gone far in international tournaments. Now the England women’s team can show the men how it’s done.
This week, the England women’s team reached the final of Euro 2009, where they played against Germany. England lost the match 6-2 but they were pleased to be in the final.
The England women’s manager, Hope Powell, says, “We’re happy with what we’ve achieved, but not satisfied with what we’ve achieved.”
Women’s football is not popular in England. It is usually never seen on TV or reported in the newspapers. But compared to the England men’s team, the women have done well. The England men’s team hasn’t managed to reach a final for 43 years.
After England’s appearance in an international final, female footballers in England hope people will become more interested in women’s football. Linzi Hewitt, a female football coach, says, “The female game is still in its youth, but it is success like this that will boost support.”
The German players are the true champions of women’s football and seem to be unbeatable – they have won the past five European Cups.

Yes, in our country we have maybe 5 women's football teams. Women's football is not popular at all ( in our country). Everybody think, that football is just men's sport, but it is not truth. I have a classmate ( girl ) that practise football. Women's football isn't so popular, because men's think, that only they can play football well! =D

I watched women's football and I think they are better than men. I think women's football is not as popular as men's football because this is new and peole have to get used to it. I think in ten years women's football will be as popular as men's. Or maybe everyone will be a women football fan. I'd like it! :)

My country has a women's football team, but it doesn't have very well results, and it isn't popular at all. It is very sad that women's football isn't popular, because when I look how women play, I nearly don't see any differences with men's. All the more reason, football is the most popular sport in the world, but just men's football and it's great shame women don't have their place in this sport.

I love football, an I think womens can play football, sometimes better than some of mens :)
